Boy Scout Celebration Area

Date: July 4    Time: 12 - 5:30 PM    Location: Spirit Field, Campground Side

A highlight of the 2011 Spirit of America Festival will be the return of a Boy Scout Celebration Area provided by members of the Arrowhead District of the Boy Scouts. This area will engage festival participants in a variety of hands-on activities and experiences to introduce them to diverse opportunities available through scouting.

Since its founding in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America have served over 100 million members and made a positive impact on our nation’s youth, developing strong leaders and supporting traditional American values through the Scout Oath and Scout Law. To learn more about the Arrowhead District of the Boy Scouts of America, please visit their website at http://arrowhead.1bsa.org.

Pick up your passport and explore some of the many opportunities available through scouting.  Complete each activity and redeem your passport for a special prize! The Boy Scout Celebration Area will provide displays and demonstrations of typical scouting activities.  Guests can  learn proper knot tying techniques, race in the “rain gutter regatta”, test your dexterity on “Hillbilly Skis”,  launch a water-powered rocket, and use a branding iron to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake for the festival, There will also be a cast-iron cooking demonstration,  Ham-radio demonstrations,  and a discussion and display of the religious emblems and awards to be earned. Race a pinewood derby car down the track or test your racing skills and endurance by riding a peddle car. The fun and opportunities to learn about scouting will be abundant!  Throughout the day,  scouts will play an integral role in activities such as flag-raising ceremonies and the award ceremony.

Join the fun in the Boy Scout Celebration Area, and take part in the activities that celebrate youth and the perpetuation of American traditions, skills and values.  Join us at the Spirit of America Festival as we celebrate over 100 years of adventure and service of the Boy Scouts of America!
