Children’s Area

Redstone Federal Credit Union Children’s Tent and Stage

The fun will be hotter than a firecracker at the 2011 Spirit of America Festival, as families can enjoy an abundance of activities in the Spirit of America Children’s Area and the Redstone Federal Credit Union Children’s Tent and Stage.  Have a Yankee Doodle dandy of a time enjoying the wide variety of games, crafts, inflatables, displays and entertainment at the Redstone Federal Credit Union Children’s Tent and Stage. Activities in the Children’s Area will begin at 12:00 as the Liberty’s Legacy Children’s Bike Parade travels to the tent, escorted by Lady Liberty for a musical presentation by Steven Jackson of Liberty’s Legacy.  Jackson will perform “You put the ‘U” in USA” and other patriotic favorites and children will enjoy a presentation from Lady Liberty.  At 1:00, award winners for the Children’s Bike Parade will be announced on the stage.  Families can spend the afternoon playing carnival games, shopping in the Spirit Country Store, making crafts, frolicking in the inflatables, having their face painted, and enjoying entertainment on the Children’s Stage.  Special to the Children’s Tent this year are displays and activities from the City of Decatur Beautification Department, Sci-Quest and dinosaurs from the  U.S.  Space and Rocket Center.  Sci-Quest will be bringing turtles and geckos, and will give children a chance to make their own homemade slime!

The Spirit of America Festival is proud to welcome the Lego Experience Tour 2011 as featured event.  Enjoy four tents filled with imagination and fun as children can build their own Lego creations and participate in timed challenges that will test your creativity and building skills.

The Boy Scouts of America Arrowhead District will again sponsor a Scouting Celebration Area  filled with activities, demonstrations and hands-on fun!  (See the separate section on the BSA Scouting Celebration Area.)  This action-packed area with activities,  entertainment and games will provide f memories and magic for families.  The Children’s Tent and Stage activities will conclude at 5:30 so that families may attend the patriotic Awards Ceremony at 6:00 on the Spirit of America Stage.  Important Note: Though there is no admission fee for the  Spirit of America Festival, a few activities in the Children’s Area, such as inflatables and certain crafts, will require the purchase of tickets at a nominal cost.  The ticket purchase helps to defray the cost of inflatable rentals and supplies, and enables the Festival Committee to continue to offer the entire festival free of  charge.
